A Modern Facility that Supports Jackson County’s Law Enforcement

The new law enforcement center will be the headquarters for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The facility will feature a modern jail designed to manage inmates safely and securely.

The facility will also support law enforcement departments from other cities within Jackson County and state agencies, including the Minnesota State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Key features of the new law enforcement center include:

  • Better design that will allow for improved inmate and staff safety

  • Cells that meet state standards

  • New 911 dispatch technology

  • 24 inmate beds

  • Designated area for safely holding evidence and equipment

  • New medical room

  • Mental health and educational space for inmates

  • Improved ADA accessibility

A Government Center Designed to Serve the Public

The new Jackson County Government Center will combine the county assessor, auditor/treasurer and recorder’s office into a new shared service division called Property & Public Services. The design will allow personnel from each department to cross-train and collaborate to provide more efficient services for residents in one stop.

The center will be built on existing county-owned land that was the site of Jackson County’s Government Center East. The facility will support a wide range of local, state and federal services, including:

  • Expanded veteran services, including telehealth room

  • Dedicated space for driver’s licensing and passports

  • Licenses – liquor, tobacco, gambling, etc.

  • Elections

  • Birth and death certificates

  • Property records

  • Marriage licenses

  • Secure, collaborative workspaces for staff

  • Larger meeting spaces for the public

  • ADA accessibility

Reducing Excess Costs for the County

A modern facility to house the law enforcement and government center operations would lower operational costs for the county, as it would eliminate the need to spend more money to maintain aging facilities and deteriorating infrastructure. Both buildings will be more energy efficient and designed to improve the efficiency of all employees.
