Improving Public Safety and Government Services in Jackson County
On the ballot: How to fund Jackson County’s new law enforcement and government services center
Jackson County is committed to keeping its residents safe and delivering the government services they expect and deserve. That is why the county is building a new law enforcement center and government center to replace facilities that are well past their useful life.
With construction already underway, Jackson County voters will now consider whether to use a 1% local sales tax to help pay for the project during a referendum on Tuesday, November 5.
If the local sales tax is approved, it will generate a total of $17.5 million over the next 25 years to help pay for the project. If the local sales tax is rejected, the county will increase property taxes by about 5% to help pay for the project instead.
A central hub for law enforcement and government services
After studying the county’s current facilities’ deficiencies and feedback from residents, county leaders developed and approved the construction of a new $41.2 million building to serve as a government center and law enforcement center and jail. Construction began in January 2024 and is on schedule to be completed in early 2026.
When complete, the new law enforcement center will provide a safe and secure jail that supports the Sheriff’s Office and other personnel. The new government center will provide the space and equipment needed to efficiently deliver a wide range of public services – from driver’s licenses to veterans’ services to election administration.
Recognizing that this is an important community decision, this website was created to provide Jackson County residents with information about the project and the sales tax referendum to support it.
